Israeli officers grill Palestinian teenager

Fresh video footage has appeared showing Israeli military officers cruelly interrogating a Palestinian teenager in custody.

In the video, broadcast by the Arabic-language Palestine al-Yawm satellite television network, the Israeli officers can be seen yelling, cursing at and verbally abusing 13-year-old Ahmad Manasra, whom they accuse of carrying out a stabbing attack on an illegal settler near Pisgat Ze’ev settlement in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Palestinian minor eventually breaks down in tears, insisting that he does not remember anything.

At the beginning of the video, an Israeli officer is captured on camera shouting and raising his hand threateningly at Manasra.

“You are a liar!” the officer yells, adding, “I’ll show a video how you stabbed and ran after an Israeli.”

Manasra tells the officers that he had telephoned his lawyer, and that he would arrive in ten minutes. One of the officers, however, replies that he “knows the law” and begins the interrogation immediately.

The Israeli officers continue grilling the 13-year-old Palestinian until he starts crying and beating his head in frustration.

“I don’t remember; I have gone mad,” Manasra says. “I swear I don’t remember anything.”

Imam Kamenei: Iran progressed despite Western restrictions

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says conditions set by Western countries for supplying Iran with nuclear fuel prompted the country’s young scientists to produce the fuel on Iran’s soil.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with heads of Iranian universities and higher education centers in the capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

“ln the case of selling 20-percent [nuclear] fuel [to Iran], Western [countries] set humiliating conditions. Of course, this ended in our favor and our youths made effort and produced it [inside the country],” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the success of the Iranian youths in producing nuclear fuel inside the country put Western countries “on edge.”

The Leader noted that according to the latest figures, Iran has gone down two notches in terms of the pace of its scientific progress.

“This is bad. With this pace of scientific progress we are way behind. We have been kept behind for many long years,” the Leader added.

Noting that the United States started its scientific progress 140 years ahead of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The issue that amazed the world is the speed of our progress. They said the speed of the Islamic Republic’s scientific growth is 13 times that of the world’s [scientific] growth figure.”

Criticizing occasional un-Islamic moves in some universities, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Some people have mistaken cultural work in universities for mixed concerts and camps.”

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that cultural activities should train students who would be “creative, revolutionary, believing in [religious] ideals, loving their country and the Establishment, with insight, with self-confidence” and full of hope.

The Leader also told officials to give enough latitude to “faithful and revolutionary” youths for their activities.

Advising Iran’s academic community to fight off the feeling of humiliation, the Leader said, “The feeling of humiliation is very dangerous. The entire world says that Iran is a dignified and powerful country and enemies are dismayed at Iran’s [rising] influence, then some [people] in universities or in [their] newspaper say due to a sense of low esteem that ‘we are nothing and are isolated’. Now, if you underestimate yourself, why underestimate the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic Establishment as well?”

The Leader added that the university must play its role in the Economy of Resistance, adding, “A lot of talk has been going on about this issue, but we are still far from what should take place in practice. I received the report of state officials on the implementation of the executive programs of the Economy of Resistance only a few days ago.”

“Today, the university and [its] student(s) are target of the greatest conspiracies. Domination [over countries] is no more possible through old and new forms of colonialism, [therefore,] they (colonialist powers) want active, smart and elite elements of a country to think in a way that would meet their goals,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Muslims win majority in City Council of Hamtramck, US

The U.S. city of Hamtramck has recently elected a Muslim-majority City Council for the first time in the country.

The town of Hamtramck, in the state of Michigan, was a long-time Polish-Catholic enclave, but it has been demographically changing recently, and the election has shown how far the city had come. The three people who received the most votes were Muslim, two were incumbents – Anam Miah and Abu Musa – and the third, newcomer Saad Almasmari. They had the highest number of votes overall in last week’s election.

The 28-year old Almasmari is a student, who moved to the United States in 2009 and became a citizen two years later.

In a statement, community leader Bill Meyer said: “Hamtramck has made history. The election was far from close, with the three Muslim winners each gaining over 1,000 votes while the other three candidates garnered less than 700 votes each”.

Although the percentage of Muslims who reside in the town is unknown, a recent U.S. estimate describe the city as currently 24 percent Arab, 19 percent African, 15 percent Bangladeshi, 12 percent Polish and 6 percent Yugoslavian. Estimates of Hamtramck’s Muslim population are between 30 to 50 percent.

According to Meyer, the City Council’s incumbent Muslim council members have proven themselves to the city, saying that they have “helped bring stability, security and sobriety while lessening the amount of drugs and crime in the city”.

First Qatari Soldier killed in Yemen

A Qatari soldier serving with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has been killed, Qatar’s first fatality of the conflict, the foreign minister said on Wednesday.

“We congratulate ourselves and our nation for the death of a son of our homeland in Yemen,” Khalid bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah announced on Twitter.

Government officials later confirmed the death, though no more details were given.

There have been no previous deaths reported among the Qatari force though two soldiers had previously been injured, said officials.

Yemen has been since March 26 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition. Thousands have been martyred and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the attack on Yemen in a bid to restore power to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia.

Qatar’s air force, along with those of other Gulf Cooperation Council members, has taken part in the aerial campaign which began in March this year.

Doha sent 1,000 troops into Yemen in September as part of the ongoing Arab coalition against the Arab impoverished country.

Most of the Qatari troops are thought to be stationed close to the Yemen-Saudi border.

ISIS hunts down men disguised as women in Mosul

The ISIS group has established multiple checkpoints inside Mosul to check for girls and young women because the group claims that many men have recently started disguising themselves as women, according to a Kurdish official on Wednesday.

“ISIS has recently placed several checkpoints on the main roads inside Mosul. Every woman will be checked by two women to make sure they are not men dressed as women,” Ismat Rajab, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) branch in Mosul said.

Rajab added: “ISIS is fearing that many men have started to dress like women so they would walk around easily because most of the men in Mosul had been asked to join the organization.”

On October 31, ISIS reportedly executed a group of boys and young men in Mosul between the ages of 12 and 16 trying to flee the extremist-held city, another KDP official said at the time.

Iran’s Hajj official urges pilgrims to get Iraq visas for Arbaeen

Head of Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Saeed Ohadi urged all Iranians wishing to travel to Iraq for Arbaeen rituals to ensure having a visa.

He said coordination is already in place with the Iranian foreign ministry and Iraqi embassy in Iran for issuing visas for pilgrims in 15 cities across the country.

He noted that visas will be issued only on border towns as well as Khorramshahr in Khuzestan province which neighbors Iraq.

The official stressed that necessary measures have been taken to guarantee safety of Iranian pilgrims during the rituals in Iraq.

Iraqi Interior Minister Mohammed Salem al-Ghabban had already announced that a representative office of the Iraqi consulate will open in the border province of Ilam to facilitate passage of pilgrims for Arbaeen rituals inside Iraq.

He said pilgrims will receive up to 60-day visas to avoid huge crowds at the border crossing.

The minister stressed that all pilgrims wishing to enter Iraq have to have visas otherwise they will be denied entry into the country.

Al-Ghabban highlighted the readiness of his government to provide security and all needed facilities for the Arabeen pilgrims.

Meanwhile, an Iranian Police official too said that drones will be used at Arbaeen to control the traffic and the pilgrims’ security in the Mehran international border.

Colonel Mokhtar Chehri said the drones will also give aid services to the pilgrims at that occasion.

The Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, said preparations are being made for hosting millions of pilgrims on the upcoming occasion of Arbaeen.

According to the website of the Astan, an integrated plan has been underway for ensuring security and arranging the necessary services for the pilgrims.

Every year a large number of pilgrims converge on the holy city of Karbala on the day of Arbaeen.

In the past two years, the number was estimated to be more than 20 million.

Arbaeen marks the anniversary of the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 after Hijra (680 AD).

On this day, Shia Muslims all over the world mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

This year, Arbaeen falls on Wednesday, December 2.
