Ayatollah Bushehri speaks on anniversary of martyrdom of Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (A)

Rasa News Agency reports – Ayatollah Sayyed Hashem Hoseyni-Bushehri, the director of the Islamic Seminaries throughout Iran, has given an interview to Rasa News Agency on the martyrdom of the sixth Shi’ite Imam, Ja’far ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq (A).

“In his era, Imam as-Sadiq (A) was the founder of knowledge movement which formed the focus of an extensive academic environment where various scientific disciplines were taught,” he said in praise of the Imam, who is respected by all Muslims, both Shi’ah and Sunni, for his great Islamic scholarship, pious character, and academic contributions. Ayatollah Bushehri described the Islamic Seminary, which was established upon the pillars of the vast knowledge which Imam as-Sadiq (A) taught, as the supporter of religious knowledge which has value for the Islamic society as it can promote the country, thought and beliefs of society as well as strengthen their religious beliefs which are based upon the wisdom of the Ahlul-Bayt (A).

With this knowledge, seminarians will be able to continue on the path of knowledge and stay ahead of the world and help their nation and society to advance academically as they did after the Islamic Revolution in various fields. During the time of Imam as-Sadiq (A), free thinking was encouraged and in the modern era, it must be given a renewed importance. Ayatollah Bushehri explained that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei) has encouraged the debate of ideas and theories in a calm environment by the elites to advance scholarship.

Imam as-Sadiq (A) was known for his tolerance and kindness, even with his social and doctrinal opponents. He invited his opponents to debate him and during these debates he kept a calm demeanour and debated logically. The Imam (A) even engaged in heated debates with atheists. By observing the behaviour of the Imam (A), many of his fiercest opponents repented and began to praise the Imam (A) instead of abusing him. Ayatollah Bushehri explained that the lives of Imam as-Sadiq (A) and the other Infallible Imams (A) are perfect role models for society to imitate. Following in their blessed footsteps will help solve the problems that exist in society.

An Associated Press video journalist was killed in an ordnance explosion in the Gaza Strip, together with a Palestinian translator and three members of the Gaza police.

Simone Camilli, 35, died Wednesday when Gaza police engineers were neutralizing unexploded ordnance in the Gaza town of Beit Lahiya left over from fighting between Israel and Islamic militants.
Camilli is the first foreign journalist killed in the Gaza conflict, which took more than 1,900 Palestinian lives and 67 on the Israeli side.

Camilli and a translator working with the AP, Ali Shehda Abu Afash, were accompanying the ordnance team on assignment when the explosion occurred. The police said four other people were seriously injured, including AP photographer Hatem Moussa.

Anti-Israeli posters hang on walls in Rome + Photos

Untitled-1555

Several anti-Israeli posters are found hanging on the walls of Rome in the past two days. The posters, written in Italian, share the message “Do Not Buy from Israel” and contain a list of Jewish-owned stores that should be boycotted.

“If you buy from these infamous people, you will contribute to the killing of other thousands of women, children, and elderly,” the posters say.

The mayor of the city has published a statement condemning the posters and comparing them to the ones seen during the times of Fascism in Italy. The posters are currently being removed from the walls of the city.

The Italian government and media since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip have been worked in favor of the Zionists.

They want to show Hamas and the Palestinian resistance are the main culprit of the present war, but Italian people have repeatedly shown their vigilance by holding several pro-Palestinian demonstrations in different cities.

FC Barcelona soccer sensation and UNICEF goodwill ambassador Lionel Messi posted a picture of a wounded Palestinian child from the Gaza Strip on his Facebook page Thursday, with an accompanying caption appealing to end all violence affecting children in the region.

“I am terribly saddened by the images coming from the conflict between Israel and Palestine, where violence has already claimed so many young lives and to injure countless children,” Messi, who has nearly 68,000,000 Facebook followers, wrote both in English and in Arabic.

“Children did not create this conflict, but they are paying the ultimate price. This cycle of senseless violence must stop. We must reflect on the consequences of military conflicts and children must be protected,” he concluded.

The post was “liked” over 25,000 times, with many comments praising Messi for taking a stance on the conflict, and others urging him to remove the post.

Last year, Messi and the Barcelona squad took a break from their preseason training and flew to the Holy Land for a two-day “peace tour” with Israeli and Palestinian kids. The visit was originally to have included an exhibition match between Barcelona and a joint Israeli-Palestinian Authority team of professional players, but the game was canceled after the Palestinians objected to playing alongside Israelis.

Michigan man charged in attack on Muslim woman

MASON, Mich. – A Mason man was charged with ethnic intimidation and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge in connection with an assault on a Muslim woman at the Meridian Mall on July 19.

Jonathan Patrick Deuel, 29, was arraigned today in 55th District Court in Mason, accused of participating in assault of the woman near the mall’s food court. Deuel was arrested on Wednesday by Meridian Township Police.

The ethnic intimidation charge is a felony punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine. Assault and battery is generally a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of up to 93 days and fines of up to $500.

The Council on Arab-Islamic Relations – a Muslim civil liberties advocacy group – spoke with the woman’s family and said that three people, two men and a woman, had surrounded the 26-year-old at the mall.

They then allegedly tried to pull off her niqab and abaya – the veil and dress that some Muslim women choose to wear in public – before knocking her to the ground and shouting slurs and profanities at her.

“We urge state, local and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for this troubling incident and to make every effort to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice,” said Dawud Walid, executive director of CAIR-Michigan, said on July 21. “We urge public officials to speak out against the anti-Muslim hate that can lead to such attacks.”

Meridian Township Police say that Deuel will be the only person charged in the incident, contrary to the claims of multiple assailants made by CAIR. Lt. Greg Frenger said that while there were other people who witnessed the attack, Deuel is the only person to commit a crime.

“I don’t foresee any other charges coming out of this,” Frenger said. “There were other people present but only one person committed a crime.”

The incident was investigated as a hate crime and Frenger said that behavior such as this would not be tolerated in Meridian Township.

“This sort of thing is unusual for this community,” he said. “This is a diverse community and any person living and working in this area should not feel like there’s going to be any hesitation on our part to investigate such a claim.

“This is who we’re made up of,” Frenger added. “We took it seriously when it first came to our attention and followed through. We’re pleased that charges have been issued and he’s been arrested.”

Deuel’s bond was set at $25,000 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Mason.

Islamophobia in U.S.: Manassas Mosque vandalized in possible hate crime

111

A Prince William County mosque was vandalized Monday night or early Tuesday, and Muslim leaders described the incident as a hate crime.

Abu Nahidian, the imam at Manassas Mosque, said he arrived Tuesday morning to find an expletive written twice in spray paint on the windows of the mosque that he helped found 20 years ago. Eight windows were defaced, and a glass door was shattered.

Because the mosque has a double set of doors, the house of worship could not be entered, Nahidian said.

The mosque has been vandalized before when tensions in the United States ran high over violence in the Middle East, Nahidian said. The last previous incident was three years ago.

“We do not hurt anybody. If those with our names are doing something, why should I become the victim? You haven’t seen me doing anything,” he said. “We are a part of the whole earth, and we love the whole earth.”

A statement issued by the Council on American-Islamic Relations characterized the vandalism as a possible hate crime and asking police to investigate.

Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for Prince William County police, said officers went to the mosque Tuesday afternoon. Police said in a statement that it was not immediately clear whether the incident was a hate crime but that vandalism at any religious institution is “carefully investigated to determine the criminal intent of the suspect.”

Nahidian estimates that replacing the door and removing the paint from the windows will cost $1,000. In the meantime, 20 to 25 children who participate in the mosque’s summer classes had to walk past the obscenities to get inside Tuesday morning.

Give Israelis Nobel Peace Prize!’

noble-peace-prize

The Nobel Peace Prize should be given to Israeli forces for their “unimaginable restraint” in their offensive against the blockaded Gaza Strip, says the Israeli envoy to the United States.

Israeli ambassador Ron Dermer made the appalling remarks at a pro-Israeli event in Washington on Tuesday.

The Israeli forces “should be given the Nobel Peace Prize… a Nobel Peace Prize for fighting with unimaginable restraint,” Dermer said, claiming the Israeli soldiers do not “target a single Palestinian civilian.”

“Our soldiers are dying so that innocent Palestinians can live,” he said, censuring Human Rights Watch for its criticism of the Israeli aggression.

At a different event in Tal Aviv, UN chief Ban Ki-moon extended his condolences to the Israeli regime for its losses during the offensive against the besieged sliver, which has so far left more than 630 dead, mostly civilians.

According to Palestinian medical workers, more than 160 Gazan children have been among the dead.

Earlier in the day, Juliette Touma, a spokesperson for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), put child fatalities from the 15-day offensive at 121, adding that more than 900 Palestinian children were also injured.
