China hosts int’l wingsuit contest

The third round of the Wingsuit World Flying Contest is taking place in China, bringing together elite wingsuit flyers from around the globe.

The flyers jumped down from the peak of Tianmen Mountain at an altitude of more than 1,400 meters, flying at the speed of 1,900 kilometers per hour on the way down.

The athletes passed through a valley and landed on a winding highway that was on the mountain.

The five-day contest began in Zhangjiajie in central Hunan Province on Tuesday. Around 26 flyers from 14 countries, such as Sweden, the United States and Australia are taking part in the game.

Wingsuit flying is the sport of flying through the air using a special jumpsuit, which adds surface area to the human body to enable the wearer to fly.

The intense sport, which is developed from skydiving, has become popular with Chinese flying enthusiasts in recent years.
