Iran ready to aid flood-hit Kashmiris

Iran says it is ready to send aid to people affected by the deadly floods in the Kashmir region of India and Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham expressed sympathy with people who lost their relatives in the flooding, noting that the Islamic Republic is prepared to provide aid and medical supplies and relief teams to food-hit areas in the region.

The catastrophic floods, worst in more than a century, have wreaked havoc in the Himalayan region, resulting in huge loss of life and property.

The heavy floods have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands more.

As Kashmir grapples with the aftereffects of the floods, messages of support and solidarity are pouring in from everywhere.

On September 21, an Iranian delegation visited the flood-hit Indian-controlled Kashmir to assess the situation and provide support to the people in the disaster zone.

The delegation met the affected people and expressed support for the stricken region.

The team was shocked at the level of damage inflicted by the devastating floods.

The presence of the Iranian team in the flood-hit areas drew positive reactions from many, including the political and religious leaders of Kashmir.

People in the Indian-controlled Kashmir have criticized New Delhi’s handling of rescue operations.

Islamabad and New Delhi have fought two wars over Kashmir since their independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The archrivals lay claim over the whole region but control parts of it.
