Man sets himself on fire in Brussels

A Lebanese man has set himself on fire in the Belgian capital during a demonstration by undocumented immigrants.

The self-immolation occurred during the march organized by the group “La Voix des Sans-Papiers” in downtown Brussels on Friday.

Other protesters rushed to extinguish the flames. The man was transferred to a local hospital after receiving treatment by paramedics.

He reportedly suffered severe burns on his face and hands and is in critical condition.

About 300 people participated in the march, demanding the normalization of the status of all undocumented immigrants and an end to compulsory repatriations.
