US nightclub shooting suspect arrested

The Miami Police Department says a 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the last week’s nightclub shooting that left 15 people injured.

Will Campbell, who was arrested on Monday, is now facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

The incident took place on Sept. 28 at a nightclub called The Spot, which was hosting a teen night.

“It was a fight between Norland High School students that led to all of the gun fire,” said Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa.

“He was told that is the other juvenile that was involved in the fight with his friend, so he took out a gun and shot that juvenile who is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Then he also shot at the crowd as he ran away, hitting another 14 people,” Orosa added.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said last week that five girls were among the wounded people.

Campbell is now being charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors are deciding whether or not to try him as an adult.

The club manager, Tiffany Johnson, is also facing charges for the recovering of unlicensed liquor in his club. The Spot is only licensed to sell beer and wine.

Every year, thousands of Americans lose their lives to the escalating gun violence in the country.

Many critics blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the US for the country’s high rate of gun violence.

The independent organization, Gun Violence Archive, has recorded more than 38,000 gun violence incidents in 2014 so far, which have resulted in 9,400 deaths and more than 17,000 injuries.

The organization has been collecting gun-related violence data in the United States since 2013.
