Yemen state TV building attacked

Revolutionaries have reportedly attacked headquarters of Yemen’s state television in a northwestern suburb of the capital Sana’a.

The state television said on Thursday that its building was attacked by Houthi fighters.

Yemeni officials gave no further details of the reported raid on the state TV building.

According to reports, Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi was forced to hold talks with his senior aides due to the attack.

Shia Houthi protesters have been holding demonstrations since August 20 in a bid to press the government of Hadi to quit. They say the government is corrupt and marginalizes the country’s Shia community.

The Houthi movement played a key role in the popular revolution that forced former dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down.

Saleh, who ruled Yemen for 33 years, stepped down in February 2012 under a US-backed power transfer deal in return for immunity, after a year of mass street demonstrations demanding his ouster.
